Sumenep, E.Java, (Antara) - Four flying schools operating at the Trunojoyo Airport in Sumenep, East Java Province, are offering classroom and practical training.

"Earlier, there were two flying schools in Trunojoyo, and later, two more had become operational by the end of May 2016," Wahyu Siswoyo, the chief class III airport operator of Trunojoyo, stated here on Thursday.

The four flying schools operating in Trunojoyo are the Merpati Pilot School, Trans Asia Pacific Aviation Training Pilot School, Flight Training Education Center of Banyuwangi, and Global Aviation School.

"This year, a flying school will likely become operational in Trunojoyo Airport. The management of the flying school has communicated with us on the plan," Wahyu remarked.

Wahyu noted that the Ministry of Transportation was taking steps to make the Trunojoyo Airport a flight training center.

Trunojoyo Airport is qualified to become a flight training center as it has adequate facilities, and the airspace around it is less crowded.

"This is an opportunity for us to maximally utilize Trunojoyo Airport. Currently, Trunojoyo has seven flight paths for flight training," he affirmed.

Wahyu stated that this year, the Ministry of Transportation was improving Trunojoyo Airport's facilities, including widening and extending the runway along with constructing the airport's apron.

"The construction of Trunojoyo Airport's apron will increase its capacity. Hence, it will become possible for other flight schools to operate at the airport," he added.(*)
