Kuala Lumpur, (Antara) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Mohamad Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak here on Wednesday evening.

Kalla will hold the bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 25th World Economic Forum (WEF) on ASEAN in Kuala Lumpur from Wednesday to Thursday.

The bilateral meeting with the Malaysian prime minister will take place at the same venue of the WEF on ASEAN on Wednesday evening after Kalla meets with the WEF Managing Director Philip Rosler.

Later, on Thursday, before departing for Jakarta, Vice President Kalla will also hold a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and the representative of Amnesty International.

WEF is an international organization that offers a platform for the business community, intellectuals, politicians, and government.

The forum will discuss not only economic issues but also other important matters relating to environment, health, and food, among others.

The meeting is expected to serve as an ideal platform for decision makers from different sectors to facilitate greater collaboration between the industry, government, and civil society to address challenges in the region.

WEF on ASEAN 2016 is the first regional meeting with specific focus on ASEAN.

Earlier, the WEF on East Asia was held in Vietnam, in 2010; Indonesia, in 2011; Thailand, in 2012; Myanmar, in 2013; the Philippines, in 2014; and Indonesia, in 2015.

The WEF on East Asia held in Jakarta in 2011 was inaugurated by the then president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono while that in 2015 was opened by President Joko Widodo.

The WEF on East Asia is a forum for political leaders, businesspersons, academicians, and other public community members to discuss global and regional challenges and solutions.(*)
