Jakarta (Antara Jatim) - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini was bestowed with the international "Ideal Mother" Award 2016 by the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in Cairo on Monday (March 21).

In her address, Risma spoke of the efforts to protect children against human trafficking by shutting down several red light districts that victimized minors, among others.

In addition, she also touched on the efforts to nurture abandoned children, street kids, as well as children with special needs and disabilities by offering facilities to support their development.

Risma noted that ever since she took office as Surabaya mayor, she had become a mother to more than one million children. Risma was elected to her second five-year term in the December 9, 2015, regional election.

Risma's speech received positive response from several quarters, with Dr Ayman Abdullah Al Baya'a, IIMSAM-UN Honorary Goodwill Ambassador, and Director of the Alwasi International Group of the United Arab Emirates offering her programs to assist children with special needs in Surabaya. (*)
