Malang, E Java (Antara) - Youth and Sports affairs Minister Imam Nahrawi plans to implement a pension program for national athletes who win medals in Olympic Games starting next year.

"The pension funds are for athletes of all sport branches, especially sports that contribute medals in Olympic events," the minister said here on Thursday on the sidelines of the opening of a training camp for the Garuda Aqua DNC team.

According to Nahrawi, his office actually has had a discourse this year to implement the pension policy for the national athletes who win medals.

However, Finance Minister still has yet to approve the plan, so that the pension budget for such athletes could be allocated in the national budget starting 2016.

Nahrawi further said that apart from Olympic athletes, the government will also include successful athletes in Sea Games and Asian Games into the pension program.

"This shows the government pays attention to athletes who have made good names for the nation in the international arena," he said. (*)
