Jakarta (Antara) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has stated that the government encouraged the synergy among the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the National Police (Polri), and the Attorney General Office (AGO).
Speaking before the joint meeting of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) here on Friday, President Jokowi said the KPK, Polri, and the AGO should cooperate to encourage the development, to enforce the law, and to eradicate corruption.
"Synchronization and harmonization among law enforcement agencies should be improved to build a modern legal system," the president remarked.
In his speech, the President also revealed that the government has also established the KPK Selection Committee, consisting of credible and independent community leaders.
"We hope the elected KPK leaders can make the anti corruption institution work more effectively, and cooperate with other law enforcement agencies to clean robe of this republic which has been tainted by corruption," Jokowi noted.
The president also remarked that the government was committed to developing Papua and to make it the Land of Peace.
"The riot like the one in Tolikara should not happen again in the future. The government provides access for foreign journalists to come and cover the events in Papua," he said.
According to him, the government is also committed to protection the indigenous people who are facing agrarian conflicts, reducing carbon emission by stopping forest fire, managing forest in sustainable manner, protecting fishermen from illegal fishing, protecting future generation from the threat of the danger of drugs; and to form a reconciliation committee to address gross human rights violations.
"The government is trying now to find the wisest and noblest way out to resolve the cases of human rights violations in the country," Jokowi said.
The president added that the government wants a national reconciliation so that the future generation do not continue to bear the burden of the past history.
"All of these are the first step the government will take to uphold humanity in this archipelago," the president noted.(*)
