Kampar, Riau (Antara) - A fire killed three children and gutted six houses in Bagan Barat village, Rokan Hilir district, Riau province, on Monday night, according to police. "All the three children belonged to a couple, Awaludin and Mila," chief of the Rokan Hilir district police Adj. Snr. Comsr. Subiantoro told Antara by phone on Tuesday. The blaze has also left an adult and a child with burn injuries, he noted. It is believed the fire was caused by an oil lamp at Mila's house. The lamp fell on the floor causing the fire to spread to the walls of the house that was made of wood, he said. "It was hard to put out the flames as fire trucks could not pass through a road leading to the house. The fire was extinguished after an hour since it broke out and claimed the lives of three children," he explained. According to the district police chief, the bodies of the three children were taken to Dr. Pratomo Bagansiapiapi Regional General Hospital. They will be buried on Tuesday. The fire has also caused material losses worth some Rp100 million, he added. (*) Reported by Fazar Muhardi
