Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - The Surabaya city government in East Java has intensified action against illegal advertising boards in several areas in the city.
The move is part of efforts to crack down on advertising bureaus that violate regulations, chief of the licensing section of housing, planning, and urban development and spatial layout office Ari Murtadlo said here on Tuesday.
"When an advertising bureau violates our regulation, we immediately stick white paper on its boards to let it know it has violated our regulation," he noted.
Some of the violations by advertising bureaus include working on expired permits and non-settling of taxes.
"We give advertisement bureaus time to meet all requirements. If they don't act, we issue them three warnings. If the warnings go unheeded, we demolish their advertising boards," he explained.
The office has added more areas to the list of places where advertising boards cannot be installed. For these areas, we have specified the distance to be maintained between advertising boards and their size limit, even if they are erected on private land.
The areas include Jl. Basuki Racmat, Embong Malang, Mayjen Sungkono, Adityawarman, HR Muhammad, Kertajaya, Panglima Sudirman, and Yos Sudarso. (*) Reported by Abdul Hakim
