Jakarta (Antara) - A legislator has called for evaluation of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) over its failure to give information to President Joko Widodo before the head of state nominates the National Police chief candidate. "We have to evaluate our state intelligence body. The President has never talked about information from the BIN when he replaced Police Chief Sutarman," Martin Hutabarat, the lawmaker of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), said during a discussion on President Joko Widodo's move to replace the national police chief here over the weekend. He said that the President did not receive adequate information from the BIN --which is led by Lt Gen. Marciano Norman-- before he discharged Gen Sutarman and proposed Com. Gen. Budi Gunawan as the police chief candidate. Martin said that if BIN did not provide adequate information regarding an important public position, it deserves to be questioned in carrying out its state duty and function. "If the President did not get information from BIN on the candidate he will nominate, what is the use of the agency?" he questioned. (*)
