Jayapura, Papua (Antara) -- As many as 10 people were hospitalized after residents and security personnel clashed in the easternmost Indonesian province of Papua on Monday. They are being treated at the Enarotali General Hospital following the clash that left four people dead, Chief of the Papua Provincial Police Insp. Gen. Yotjen Mende said here on Tuesday. Four of the 10 injured victims are aged below 20 years. They were identified as Jery Gobay (17), Oktovianus Gobay (17), Noak Gobay (13), Yulianto Motte (36), Andrias Dogopia (23), Yulianus Tebay (40), Dan Naftali Neles Gobay (45), Yeremias Kayame (59), Italia Edowai (35), and Albernadus (10). "The medical team at the hospital is still treating the victims," the provincial police chief noted, adding that the police are still investigating the root cause of the clash. Four civilians were killed and six security personnel sustained injuries when hundreds of residents attacked a military post and police office in Enarotali, Paniai district, on Monday. A spokesman of the Papua provincial police, Snr. Comsr. Sulistyo Pudjo, revealed on Monday evening that the root cause of the attacks was still unknown. "According to information from the people, four civilians died, while three soldiers and three policemen were injured. The police still cannot establish the root cause of the attack. However, a communal fight that involved unidentified people took place on Sunday at about 8.00 p. m. local time," he stated. (*)
