Lumajang, E Java (Antara) - The body of Achmad Fauzy, the University of Gadjah Mada student who died of being hit by sliding rocks while climbing Mount Semeru on Monday, was flown from Surabaya's Juanda Airport for Aceh Province on Wednesday. After arriving in Aceh, his body was then transported to the house of mourning in Tulaan Village, Gunung Meriah Subdistrict, Aceh Singkil District, Head of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park office Ayu Dewi Utari said. The postgraduate student majoring in electrical engineering died at the scene after the sliding rocks hit him and caused him to fall down. The strong wind on the summit of the 3,676-meter-high mountain area might trigger the rock-slide, she said. Achmad Fauzy was evacuated from the area of the mountain's summit on Tuesday and his body was then sent to Saiful Anwar Hospital in Malang, East Java, for a postmortem examination, she said. Despite a prohibition for any people to climb the summit of Mount Semeru, the victim attempted to do so. Therefore, Utari warned both local and foreign tourists of not forcing themselves to climb the Mt Semeru's summit for their own safety. Instead of climbing the mountain peak, the climbers were only allowed to reach Kalimati, she said. The similar warning had also been issued by an official of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) where the mountain climbers were urged to restrict their climbing activities to only Kalimati, an area before the Mahameru peak. The warning was issued due to the current status of Semeru Mountain, which was still at a dangerous level. Hence, the people should not venture within a radius of four kilometers from the mountain's peak.(*) Reported by Zumrotun Solichah
