Jakarta (Antara) - The government has sanctioned three companies, operating in infrastructure sector, to seek long-term foreign commercial loans repayable in 15 years.
The three companies are state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) II, PT Supreme Energy Rantau Dedap and PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia.
"In general, we support plans by the three companies to seek foreign loans under certain conditions," Coordinating Minister for Economy Chairul Tanjung said after a coordinating meeting of economics ministers here on Thursday.
The conditions are for the protection of the companies themselves from possible difficulties in repaying their loans, Chairul said.
The coordination meeting was attended by Finance Minister Chatib Basri, Minister for State Enterprises Dahlan Iskan and Governor of Bank Indonesia Agus Martowardojo to discuss foreign loans.
The government, however, reminded the companies of too much repayment burden of the loans and interest, Chairul said.
He said there are risks in using foreign loans, adding the impact is on the current account balance. (*)
