By Amie Fenia Arimbi Jakarta (Antara) - The Republic of Belarus is planning to offer scholarships to Indonesian students opting for further studies in Belarus, Vladimir Lopato-Zagorsky, the Belarus ambassador to Indonesia stated here on Thursday. "Education is one of the ways to increase people-to-people relations between Indonesia and Belarus, which have not really been developed during the past," the ambassador emphasized. Zagorsky remarked that Belarus is known for having some of the best universities, especially those offering higher education in the field of engineering. "The Indonesian government said one of its focus now is on improving infrastructure. We believe that we can contribute to Indonesia by providing scholarships to Indonesian engineers to study in Belarus," Zagorsky noted. He admitted that the Belarus government and Indonesia's Ministry of Education and Culture are currently discussing the best schemes to promote people-to-people contact between Belarus and Indonesia through the education sector. The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Indonesia were established on June 18, 1993. On August 22, 2011, Belarus established its embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia.(*)
