Jakarta (Antara) - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has presented awards to six best climate observers for their consistent efforts in observing climate over the last 30 years. "They are all community members who have consistently observed the climate," BMKG chief Andi Eka Sakya at the opening of a meeting to discuss the 2014-2015 dry season forecast here on Tuesday. The six climate observers were Sofyan Dahlan, Sugiyarto, Iskandar, Norma Manimpurung, Ismat, and Suparlan. Sofyan Dahlan from the observatory post of the Sicincin climate station in West Sumatra has dedicated much of his life as a climate observer since 1976. Sofyan himself earns his livelihood as a farmer. Sugiyarto has been a climate observer with the Semarang climatology station since 1985. Iskandar who works with the Sumbawa district food crops agriculture office had started his career as a climate observer in 1987 at the BMKG climatology station in Kediri, Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara. Norma Manimpurung is a climate observer working with the Pinolosian rain post in North Sulawesi. He had started his career as a climate observer in 1996. Ismat has been a climate observer from the Banjarbaru rain post in South Kalimantan since 1987, and Suparlan has been a climate observer with the Karangploso station in Malang, East Java, since 1983.
