Bogor, W Java (Antara) - The Indonesian Cooperatives Council (Dekopin) is drafting a roadmap for the development of cooperatives until 2045, and hopes it will serve as a recommendation for the government to develop cooperative movements throughout the country. "We hope that during the commemoration of the 100th Indonesian Independence Day on August 17, 2045, cooperatives will have become the main pillar of the national economy," said Dekopin Deputy Chairman Agung Sudjatmoko, speaking in West Java's resort area of Cisarua on Saturday. Further, the phases of cooperatives to support the national economy must be drawn up systematically, he said. To that end, Dekopin has involved all sides, particularly cooperative movements, to provide input in the development of cooperatives, he said. "One thing that draws our attention is how to make cooperatives a pillar of the national economy and, therefore, there must be investment in human resources," he said. He said the country's natural wealth, human resources and socio-cultural resources must be used to their fullest. "If that happens, cooperatives could be developed more sustainably," he said. He noted that a number of problems, including poor human resources, a lack of modern management techniques, and the low business volume of cooperatives have hampered the development of cooperatives.
