Cianjur, W Java (Antara) - Tourists traveling to Puncak, a popular holiday area in West Java province, flocked the Puncak-Cianjur Pass causing a 15km-long traffic congestion on Sunday. The congestion occurred since Sunday afternoon and tourists had to travel at a snail pace for two hours just to move themselves from Cianjur to Cipanas, that normally take about 15 minutes during a normal traffic. A resident of South Jakarta, Weni (34) said she had been stuck for three hours in the congested traffic due to the flock of vehicles heading to Puncak, Bogor during the weekend and long holiday. Monday (March 31) is called Nyepi, or The Day of Silence of Hindu. "We are going home to Jakarta after visiting Taman Bunga, Cipanas. We have been three hours trapped in the Cipanas route," Weni said. Meanwhile, the Cianjur Resort Police Station are still waiting further instruction from the Bogor Resort Police Station when the "open and close" system to be applied to manage the traffic congestion. "We estimated the open and close system to be applied this evening," an officer of Cianjur Resort Police Station said. The local police had instructed travelers heading to Cianjur from Cipanas to take an alternative route, Hanjawar-Pacet pass, as the vehicles from both direction keep increasing, especially at midnight. The volume of vehicles will increase as the route is also flocked by travelers heading from Bogor to Cipanas. "We have deployed hundreds of personnel to handle the traffic congestion at Cipanas-Puncak route. Some of the vehicles are directed to the alternative route," the officer said.
