Jakarta (Antara) - The private airline company of Sriwijaya Air is about to open its new route of Surabaya in East Java to Ternate in North Maluku with three round trip flights per week, according to company officials.
"Starting from January 16, 2014 we will be the first airline company to open round trip direct flights between Surabaya and Ternate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays," Sriwijaya Air Senior Manager Corporate Agus Soedjono said here on Sunday.
He said the company will operate Boeing 737-500 plane with the capacity of 120 passengers to serve the new route.
The plane will leave Surabaya at 8 am Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) and arrive in Ternate at 12.45 pm Eastern Indonesia Standard Time (WIT).
Agus noted that by opening the new route, more tourists are expected to visit the beautiful city of Ternate, situated at the slopes of Mount Gamalama in North Maluku.
"Ternate is a beautiful city with a lot of tourist attractions such as Batu Angus, Tolukko fort, Sulamadaha beach, Lake Tolire and many others," he said.
According to him, Sriwijaya air also serves flights to Ternate from Jakarta, Makassar, and Manado. (*)
