Bandung, W. Java (Antara) - National Police Chief General Sutarman has said members of police force will not be allowed to take leaves during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. He added that adequate police personnel will be assigned to maintain security during the festival period. "Police officers will not be able to take leaves during Candle Light Operation 2013. Everyone will be on duty and on high alert," the police chief said after a ceremony held to accept 12 helicopters and CN-295s from Indonesian aircraft manufacturer PTDI here on Tuesday. The police chief pointed out that his side had taken strategic and preventive measures to ensure security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. "The police have launched several security and order operations in order to create secure conditions. In general, the security conditions are guaranteed," he added. However, he said, the police will remain alert about potential threats, criminal or terrorist threats, to safeguard public security and order. He said that in preliminary operations, the police had identified and drawn up a list of potential security disturbances and enforced some preventive measures. "The police will guard all vital targets, houses of worship and tourist sites," he added. The Indonesian police plans to deploy more than 86 thousand security personnel to ensure public safety and order during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the country. "Polri (Indonesian police) will conduct `Operasi Lilin 2013' (Candle Light Operation 2013) ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations," Sutarman said at a meeting with the House of Representatives' Commission III on Monday.
