Jakarta (Antara) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized 18 cars during an investigation into a corruption case involving former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Akil Mochtar (AM). "Investigators seized a number of cars of many brands on Thursday and Friday in the AM case," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said on Friday morning. "Three more cars will follow this noon," he revealed. The cars were seized from three different places, namely from Cempaka Putih in East Jakarta, Depok in West Java and a show room in Puncak, Bogor, West Java. The cars are believed to have been owned among others by Muchtar Effendi, one of the witnesses in the AM case, Budi stated. Muchtar Effendi is suspected of acting as a mediator between Akil and regional leader candidates in Sumatra, who were litigating about regional head election disputes in the Constitutional Court. The 18 cars are a Daihatsu Zenia, an Opel Blazer, a Nissan, a Toyota Alphard, a Honda Civic, a Toyota Harrier, an Isuzu Panther, a Toyota Avanza, a Timor, a Toyota Fortunner, a Suzuki X-Roal, a Mercedez, a Mercedez Kompresor C180, a Toyota Yaris, a Daihatsu, a Mitshubisi, and a Mazda. Akil Mochtar had been arrested earlier by anticorruption investigators and accused of accepting a bribe in lieu of issuing a favorable verdict in the election disputes. (*)
