Banda Aceh (Antara) - Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia Mustafa Ibrahim Al Mubarak on Saturday visited victims of the July 2 earthquake that rocked Central Aceh and Bener Meriah districts. The Saudi ambassador visited the quake victims to see what the Saudi government could help them, spokesman of the Saudi embassy Mahmud said. "We want to see for ourselves the quake-hit area to know what the quake victims in Central Aceh and Bener Meriah districts need," he quoted the ambassador as saying. The ambassador was during the visit accompanied by Aceh Deputy Governor Muzakkir Manaf. Earlier, on Friday, Mustafa Ibrahim Al Mubarak told Antara after a fast-breaking gathering with ulemas and the ranks and files of the Aceh government at the Aceh deputy governor's residence that the Saudi government would help the quake victims. "We want to feel what the quake victims in Central Aceh and Bener Meriah feel. It is our obligation to help our brothers," he said. A powerful quake with a magnitude of 6.2 rocked the two districts on July 2, leaving tens of people dead and hundreds of others injured. The quake also destroyed thousands of buildings and infrastructure facilities, forcing thousands of people to evacuate. (*)
