Jakarta (Antara) - Senior journalist, Djafar Assegaf, 80, who passed away on Wednesday morning (June 12) here, was one of senior journalists of Antara News Agency who became ambassadors, a journalist said. In addition to Djafar Assegaf, who served as Indonesian ambassador to Vietnam, other Antara's former journalists namely Adam Malik, August Marpaung and Makmur Widodo, were respectively ambassadors to Soviet Union, Australia and Indonesian permanent representative to the United Nations, Antara's Editor-in-chief Ahmad Kusaeni said on Wednesday. Djafar died at Mitra Kemayoran hospital here at 5.00 am on Wednesday, after suffering from illness, one of his children, Gazy Assegaf said, adding that Djafar was previously got medical treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo general hospital. Djafar, who also once served as lecturer of the the University of Indonesia (UI), former board of patrons chairman of Nasdem Party, former deputy managing director at the Indonesian National Antara News Agency and Media Indonesia daily, died at Mitra Kemayoran hospital here at 5.00 am on Wednesday, Gazy Assegaf said. According to Gazy, Djafar's body will be buried at the Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery in South Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon. Djafar was also one of politicians. (*)
