Indonesia’s National Alms Agency (Baznas) has launched four emergency school tents in central Gaza to serve up to 600 displaced children after formal education facilities were destroyed by prolonged conflict.
Baznas Chairman, Sodik Mudjahid, said the initiative in Az-Zawayda reflects Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to supporting Palestine’s future, aiming to restore children’s access to education despite wartime disruptions.
"We believe education must not stop even during war. These tents symbolize hope so Gaza’s children can continue learning,” Sodik said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Monday.
The temporary schools, located near the Ard Az-Zaitoun camp, accommodate between 550 and 600 students, both boys and girls, using Palestine’s official curriculum to maintain educational standards.
Beyond academic subjects, the program also includes additional classes such as Quran education and memorization, which have already attracted around 100 registrants, according to Baznas.
Sodik said Baznas is ensuring long-term operational oversight, with on-the-ground monitoring conducted by local partner Darul Quran Alkarim Wassunah to maintain smooth aid distribution and teaching activities.
The initiative also aims to support children’s psychological recovery by providing a structured and safe learning environment amid limited infrastructure and ongoing instability in Gaza.
To optimize capacity, classes are divided into four daily sessions based on gender and grade levels, ranging from elementary to junior high school.
Sodik called on Indonesians to continue offering prayers and support to sustain education access for displaced children in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of collective humanitarian efforts.
