Sidoarjo, E Java - Artist Holis Satriawan here on Tuesday set a new record in the Indonesia Museum of Record (Muri) by using Lapindo mud to paint illustrations over 100 canvas within nine hours.
"The record breaking is one way to show our concern about Lapindo mud flow victims in Sidoarjo District," Holis Satriawan said on Tuesday.
The Lapindo mud is used as one of main ingredient for basic color and to combine with other color paint.
"We take an expressionist theme to promote and socialize the Indonesian arts and culture to the public," Satriawan said.
Satriawan took about two until four minutes to finish one painting.
The 100 paintings would be displayed for auction on March. The money will be given to Lapindo mud flow victims and for restoration of some school in East Java region.
Senior Manager of Muri Paulus Pangka said the record breaking was recorded as the 5,819 record breaking registered in the museum.
"We hope other artists and people to compete and improve their unique skill," Pangka said adding that the Lapindo mud painting was the first of the kind in Indonesia.(*)
