Surabaya - Naval Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Marsetio inducted Commodore I Nyoman Gde Nurija Ary Atmaja as governor of the Navy Academy (AAL) here on Friday, replacing Rear Admiral Herry Setianegara.
Born in Denpasar, Bali, on March 22, 1960, Ary Atmaja was chief of staff of the Military Seaborne Command (Kolinlamil) since February 1, 2011 before taking up the new post, the academy said in a press statement.
Herry Setianegara will later be assigned to the National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) in Jakarta.
While joining the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) for 29 years, Ary Atmaja was commander of Indonesian warships KRI Pulau Ratewo-702 , KRI Teluk Parigi-539, KRI Teluk Bone-511 and KRI Malhayati. He was also a commander of minesweeper unit, commander of the naval bases in Semarang and Kupang, member of expert staff of the commander of the Eastern Indonesian Fleet Command and commander of the security force of the Western Indonesian Fleet Command.
With the rapid growth of technology and the dynamics of strategic environment and global politics, much need to be anticipated to develop the capability of the Indonesian Navy, particularly its human resources, Vice Admiral Marsetio said.
"As the first officer-level educational institution which plays a central and strategic role in grooming Indonesian naval leaders, the Naval Academy is inseparable from the character-building process for sea force leadership," he said. (*)
