The government has expressed concern over recent Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and said it has taken diplomatic steps through the Board of Peace (BoP), a minister said on Monday.

President Prabowo Subianto, through State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to continue assisting the Palestinian people.

"We are concerned about the attacks and we will continue our efforts. That is our commitment to helping the people of Gaza and Palestine," Prasetyo said on the sidelines of a coordination meeting between central and regional governments in Bogor, West Java.

He said the president remains consistent in prioritizing humanitarian issues related to Palestine as part of Indonesia's foreign policy, in line with the constitutional mandate.

Regarding the government's response to developments in Gaza, Prasetyo said communication has been conducted through the BoP via closed diplomatic channels.

"There has been communication, but it has been through closed channels," he said.

President Prabowo signed Indonesia's BoP membership charter on the sidelines of the 2026 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22.

Indonesia's membership aims to strengthen its diplomatic engagement in global peace efforts, particularly in supporting a two-state solution for Palestine.

Separately, at least 31 people were reported killed in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip since Saturday morning, according to Al Jazeera, citing medical sources.

The report said the attacks occurred a day before Israel was scheduled to reopen the Rafah Crossing between Gaza and Egypt, the first such reopening since May 2024.
