Tuban - A flash flood struck several villages in the Soko sub-district of Tuban Regency, East Java, on Friday evening, damaging a hundred hectares of paddy fields and resulting in crop failure. "There are several villages in the sub-district that have been damaged by the flash flood. The severely damaged paddy fields are in Sandingrowo village and the surrounding areas," said Commander of the Military District of Soko Captain Infantry Subiyanto here on Saturday. He noted that the flash flood occurred after the downpour in Wadang Hills in Soko on Friday at 8 p.m. According to him, the flash flood struck the area in the span of two hours and drained sludge 80 centimeters high into offices in the military district and surrounding areas. The flash flood from Wadang Hills struck Plumpit, Prambon, Soko, Semanding, Sandingrowo, and Kenongosari villages in the Soko sub-district. Currently, the flash flood is still affecting Sandingrowo village since the area is also inundated by the overflow of Bengawan Solo River. The flash flood also damaged and swept away several game tools from playgroup school "Cerdas Ceria" in Soko village. "The water flow was rapid and caused our fence to collapse," said the manager of the playgroup school, Ulda. (*)
