PGN to Finish Construction of Sidoarjo Gas Infrastructure in 2017

Surabaya, E Java, (Antara) - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) Tbk said construction of 1.8 kilometer long middle pressure gas infrastructure now under underway in the regency of Sidoarjo, East Java, would be finished this year.

Head of the Sidoarjo branch of the publicly traded state gas company  Andaya Endy Saputra said here on Thursday, PGN wanted to apply the concept of energy city  in Sidoarjo like Surabaya as that satellite city  has many units of micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM).

"In Sidoarjo there are kampongs having units of UMKM already supplied with gas through pipes, but it is difficult to apply the concept of energy city in Sidoarjo as the UMKM units are located in different kampongs too far separated there," he said.

Andaya said Sidoarjo has no gas network of middle pressure gas pipes over the past many years  as that type gas pipes are given specially only for commercial customers like restaurants.

"Therefore, this year , we plans to build at the cluster of Taman Pinang, specially middle pressure for commercial customers to be completed toward the end of this year," he said.

After that PGN would look for investment opportunity  in  Sidoarjo targeting various segments like  Kampung Tempe, Kampung Logam, etc.

Andaya said the  number of commercial customers among restaurants  in Taman Pinang, Sidoarjo, totaled only around 13 restaurants but the number of potential to increase to 23 units.

"We are convinced that the neighbors right and left would finally   like to use our services. If these clusters of commercial customers end in success, the system could be adopted in other locations. We are still studying that possibility," he said.

Meanwhile , the number of household customers of PGN in Sidoarjo totaled 6,812  from the Program of 'Sayang Ibu' in Pondok Jati, Tropodo,  and Deltasari, and by the end of 2017, the number of consumers is expected to increase, he said.(*)
