Surabaya, E Java (Antara) -- The Surabaya city government expelled two occupants from a low-cost flat they rented, for abusing their right.
Head of the Surabaya City Building and Land Office Maria Theresia Rahayu said here on Thursday that the city government had been controlling and monitoring people living in low-cost flats, especially after it issued a policy that scrapped the cap on the number of city dwellers that can reside in a flat.
"It is true that the rule on the maximum number of occupants in a flat has been scrapped. However, we are continuing to control the number by checking flats every three months," she noted.
The checks are carried out by matching city administration data with results of direct inspections of each of the houses, Rahayu explained.
In addition, the city administration also compares photographs of occupants of each unit of low-cost flats with data from the city government, she affirmed.
"If the photographs do not match with those of the occupants, people in the flats are expelled," the official stated.(*) Reported by Abdul Hakim
