Jakarta - The government plans to build large scale housing for National Defence Forces (TNI) soldiers in the next two years, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Friday. Speaking in his state address to mark the 67th anniversary of the TNI at Halim Perdanakusuma military airbase in East Jakarta, the head of state said that the construction of the housing project is part of the government's efforts to improve the welfare of TNI soldiers. "For its implementation, I ask the defence minister, TNI chief and the army, navy and air force chiefs of staff to build a synergy and cooperate with each other to help in realising the housing project for the soldiers," President Yudhoyono noted. The head of state said that for building houses for the soldiers, the TNI could involve Military/Combat Engineering to speed up the construction process and make it more efficient. "In the future, I hope that the regulation is clear and firm in order to avoid conflicts over the right to use TNI official houses, as has frequently happened," he said. The President pointed out that the government would continue to improve the welfare of TNI soldiers in line with its efforts to step up the prosperity of all people in the country. According to him, the government will also continue to increase budget allocation for the TNI soldiers' sustainable welfare. "Therefore, I ask the TNI soldiers to maintain high discipline and competence while using the military weaponry system. Keep practicing so that you can be ready to expand the task of the state," the head of state encouraged the soldiers. (*)
