Jakarta - A 16-member Indonesian art contingent from Swarna Nusantara dance studio received the best performance award from a folklore festival held in Barcelona, Spain, on June 25-30, the studio said on Wednesday.
The art contingent's participation in the festival was sponsored by the Indonesian embassy in Madrid and the Indonesian Education and Culture Ministry, the studio said in a press statement.
The contingent led by Dina Bayundani consisted of 13 dancers and three musicians from junior high school and senior high school Labschool in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, and junior high school Annisa in South Tangerang municipality.
The festival was participated in by art contingents from Italy, Turkey, Lithuania, Serbia, Bosnia, Brusnik, Georgia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Indonesia, Slovenia, Poland, Spain and Ireland.
In the festival, the Indonesian art contingent presented Saman, Piring and Batak dances and traditional percussion consisting of tambourine, Makassar drum, 'talempong' and Dog Dog drum.
Education and Culture Minister Muhammad Nuh saw off the Indonesian art contingent at his office on June 19.
Indonesian Ambassador to Spain Adiyatwidi Adiwoso Asmady also gave awards to all members of the art contingent for their achievement. (*)
