Public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations (SPKLUs) recorded a 4.5-fold increase in transactions during the Christmas and New Year holiday period compared to the corresponding period last year.

This was confirmed by the President Director of state-run electricity company PLN Darmawan Prasodjo in a statement from PLN received here on Thursday.

According to Prasodjo, the number of people using EVs for the homecoming exodus during the holiday period is projected to increase by 2.5 to three folds on the Trans Java and Trans Sumatra toll roads compared to the same period last year.

To anticipate the increase, the number of PLN's SPKLUs on toll roads increased from 64 units last year to 500 units.

"We saw a drastic increase in charging transactions at SPKLUs. For that reason, we ensure that our public charging systems are running well," he remarked.

Extending beyond just toll roads, PLN has increased the number of SPKLUs nationwide, growing from approximately one thousand units last year to more than 3,069 units distributed across 2,096 locations throughout Indonesia.

To support the operations, PLN has readied six thousand personnel to be on standby for 24 hours at all SPKLU locations during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Furthermore, PLN has provided the Trip Planner feature on its PLN Mobile application, which allows electric car users to plan their trips with information regarding the locations of SPKLUs, mileage, and power needs.

"From the beginning to the final destination, it will be easier for drivers to find out the locations of SPKLUs and can plan from the beginning where to charge," he remarked.
