Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Arifah Fauzi highlighted the importance of synergy and collaboration of various parties in handling the issue of violence against women.
"Violence against women is a complex issue that cannot be handled by the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection alone," she said at the Dare to Speak Up campaign event in Jakarta on Sunday.
Fauzi expressed appreciation to the private sector which has shown its commitment to realizing public transformation that is safe and free from sexual violence.
"I hope this synergy can continue to be expanded to various other sectors. Essentially, protecting women is our shared responsibility," she remarked.
On that occasion, the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection together with other ministries, agencies, and private parties, made a joint declaration for realizing public transportation that is safe, accessible, inclusive, and free from sexual violence.
There were four points of the joint declaration, namely strongly rejecting all forms of sexual violence in public transportation and realizing accessible, inclusive, and safe public transportation modes and systems for women, older adults, children, and other vulnerable groups.
The third point is implementing policies, reporting mechanisms, and handling sexual violence in public transportation that prioritize the best interests of victims, while also ensuring accessible, inclusive, and integrated public transportation.
Meanwhile, the last point is preventing sexual violence in public transportation through the dissemination of information to users and training at the management and operator levels.
According to the results of the 2024 National Women's Life Experience Survey (SPHPN), one in four women in Indonesia have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from their partners and/or people other than their partners in their lifetime.
