Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - State-owned aircraft maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) has agreed to strengthen its cooperation with European Aeronautic Defense and Space (EADS) to expand its business in the aviation and defense industry.
Both groups reached agreement at a meeting held here on Wednesday (April 4), PTDI spokesman Rakhendi Priyatna said on Friday.
The PTDI delegation to the meeting was led by its president director, Budi Santoso, while the EADS delegation was chaired by its CEO, Louis Gallois, Rakhendi said.
The EADS delegation's visit was of great significance to confirm PTDI's competence in the aviation and defense industry, he noted.
Further, EADS officials believe that the agreement would lead to the two sides signing a larger business contract, he said.
He added that the agreement coincided with the Indonesian government's program to restructure and revitalize PTDI, a move believed to enable the company to compete with foreign rivals in the global market.
Under the cooperation, PTDI would gain a number of benefits, including as industrial partner (tier-1 supplier), EADS market share in commercial collaboration efforts (CCE), as well as sharing market regions, he said.
Looking ahead, PTDI would also receive part of the development of various aircraft, such as fixed wing plane CN295 and helicopters AS350, AS355, AS365, and EC725, he said.
Established on July 10, 2000, EADS is a consortium of Aérospatiale-Matra of France, Dornier GmbH and DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG (DASA) of Germany, and Construcciones Aeronáuticas SA (CASA) of Spain.
In 2003, EADS employed more than 100,000 workers in 10 production locations worldwide.(*)
