Jakarta - U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Ted Osius announced completion of the $57 million U.S. Government-funded Integrated Maritime Surveillance System (IMSS) project with the Indonesian Navy. The system includes 18 coastal surveillance stations, 11 ship-based radars, and 4 command centers, namely in Batam, Manado, Jakarta, and Surabaya, the US embassy said in a press statement here on Wednesday. The now fully operational IMSS enhances Indonesia's ability to detect, track, and monitor vessels passing through territorial and international waters, a capability crucial to combating piracy, illegal fishing, smuggling, and terrorism within and around Indonesia?s maritime borders.
