Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati pressed for a more modern and inclusive transformation of public services, especially in the health sector, to deal with COVID-19.

“Right now, the Ministry of Finance is pursuing transformation in public service to become more modern and inclusive. We also want to support transformation in the health sector," Indrawati stated at the Ministry of Finance's Transformation Festival in here, Tuesday.

Minister Mulyani believes that the transformation of public services to become more modern and inclusive, especially in the health sector, would create a better health system and also contribute globally in dealing with COVID-19.

The minister emphasized that this effort must be made on account of the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic, which has protracted for almost two years, has majority impacted the society, business sector, health, economy, social, and state's finances.

State revenues fell, as the people's economy was affected by the pandemic. It is the government's responsibility to utilize the state's money to handle health, social, and business aspects as well as maintain recovery while still working on the country's development that must continue.

Hence, Minister Mulyani noted that the transformation of public services in a modern and inclusive direction can encourage to accelerate the vaccination program. The transformation of public service could help to gain the people's trust and the government's attention, she noted.

The government is targeting the COVID-19 vaccination to reach some 70 percent of the total population in Indonesia to achieve herd immunity, so that the economic sector can bounce back.

“We must continue to conduct vaccination since we have not reached 40 percent of our target. We are aiming to reach 70 percent of our population. We must continue to live side by side with COVID-19 in this endemic phenomenon," she concluded. (*)
