Situbondo, E Java (Antaranews Jatim) - As many as 16 buildings in East Java's Situbondo district suffered minor damage after a magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit the district early Thursday, the local disaster mitigation agency said.
"We, along with other officers of the operation control center (Pusdal Ops) spread to survey the impact of the earthquake. On average the 16 buildings suffered minor damage," coordinator of the operations control center of the Situbondo district disaster mitigation agency, Puriyono said here on Friday/.
He said a resident of Arjasa village suffered broken bone on the left foot while trying to rush outdoors.
The dozens of buildings including village health service post, mushalla (small place of worship) and school which suffered minor damage in the form of cracks on their walls are found in 10 sub-districts, he said.
The earthquake which struck at 01:44 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB), rocked Situbondo at the wee hour of Thursday, sending panic-stricken people to rush out of their houses.
The quake was centered 7.42 degrees southern latitude and 114.47 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 kilometer in the Bali Sea .
The epicenter was around 61 kilometers northeast of the city of Situbondo, and 860 km southeast of Jakarta, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) office said.
The agency said the quake had no potential to trigger tsunami.
However, after the quake, people in the city of Situbondo, chose to sleep outside their houses, traumatic of the recent quake and tsunami in Central Sulawesi and Lombok. (*)
