Jakarta, (Antara) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla and his entourage left Jakarta's Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at 6.30 am local time on Monday for Denpasar, Bali, to open the 85th General Assembly of the International Police (Interpol), to be held in Nusa Dua from November 7 to 10, 2016.

On the occasion the vice president is accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Wiranto,
the Head of the Secretariat of the Vice President, Mohammad Oemar, Deputy Government Policy Support Dewi Fortuna Anwar, and Vice President Expert Team Sofyan Wanandi.

After opening the Interpol General Assembly, Vice President Kalla  will return to Jakarta and is scheduled to arrive at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at 12.55 pm, local time.

ome 1,200 delegates from 167 countries confirmed their participation in the general assembly, Adjunct Senior Commissioner  Wayan Sri of the Bali provincial police, said in Nusa Dua, Bali, Saturday.

The general assembly will be led by President of Interpol Mireille Ballestrazzi of France and Secretary General of Interpol Jurgen Stock of Germany.

Three main issues to be discussed in the Interpol meeting are terrorism, organized crimes, and cyber crimes.

The assembly is expected to yield recommendations on international cooperation in the fight against international and transnational crimes.

Among main speakers during the gathering will be Indonesia's National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian, and Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti.

The annual Interpol General Assembly is believed to be the second-largest international gathering, after the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Indonesian police, through their initiatives to combat terrorism in the country, has set an example for other countries.

Conducted every year, the Interpol general assembly is a forum to discuss all major decisions affecting general policy, working methods, program activities and resources needed for international cooperation.(*)
