Jakarta, (Antara) - The governments of Indonesia and France are committed to cooperating and increasing various efforts for world peace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement here Saturday.

The commitment was conveyed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and French Minister for European Affairs Harlem Desir during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 21st ASEAN-European Union Ministerial meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.

At the bilateral meeting, the two ministers, in addition to discussing some of the issues raised at the ASEAN-EU ministerial meeting, also discussed bilateral issues of mutual concern, including the strengthening of cooperation in maintaining the world peace.

The French government expressed appreciation for Indonesia's active role in maintaining world peace, including its preparation for the implementation of the International Peace Conference which was initiated by France.

As one of its commitments in the field of a world peace mission, Indonesia will attend the "High Level Ministerial Event on Peacekeeping in a Francophone Environment" which was initiated by the French government.

The event is scheduled to be held from October 26 to 27, 2016 in Paris, France and discuss peace missions in relations to the development of French-language communications for United Nations personnel and the peacekeeping mission contingent.

Indonesia and France have a bilateral mechanism in the form of Bilateral Consultative Forum at the ministerial level, among others a Defense Dialogue between Indonesia and France, the Joint Working Group (KKB) for Higher Education, KKB for Tourism, KKB for Energy.(*)
