Batam, Riau Islands, (Antara) - Suspected terrorist LH (24) who was caught in Batam on Saturday was about to join work in Singapore, according to the chief of the Riau Islands regional police command, Brigadier General Sam Budigusdian.
"He was to begin working in Singapore. He had received an offer from SP (mother of LH's friend) to work as a cleaner and a night market worker on Sentosa Island," the officer stated while explaining on Monday the circumstances surrounding LH's recent arrest by police's anti-terror Densus 88 squad in Batuaji, Batam.
He said LH had a passport, numbered B3350747, that was confiscated along with a number of other items including two Bank Mandiri savings account books, during the raid.
He said LH had been assigned to recruit five more persons to work in Singapore who were to be later dispatched by an illegal manpower supplier through Batam.
"During questioning, LH said he had no intention of going to Syria," Brigadier General Sam added.
He said so far it was believed that LH had helped wanted terrorist from Uighur, China, Dony, to hide from the authorities and facilitated the departure of an Indonesian citizen to Syria. He is also believed to have helped in the entry into Batam of two foreign citizens from Uighur and have received funds from the East Turkistan Islamic Movement to fund the livelihood of the Uighur duo.
LH is currently undergoing investigation, he informed.
He said LH was also believed to have participated in a plan to attack Marina Bay, Singapore. Densus 88 in cooperation with the Riau Islands police had arrested six terrorist suspects in Batam on August 5.(*)
