Surabaya, E Java, (Antara) - Sulistina Sutomo, wife of Indonesia's revolutionary leader Bung Tomo, passed away at the age of 91 on early Wednesday after undergoing medical treatment for several days at the Jakarta-based Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital.
Sulistina's death was confirmed by her son, Bambang Sulistomo, AH Tony, one of Bung Tomo's relatives, stated here.
The 91-year-old wife of charismatic Bung Tomo, who is known for his oration at a local radio to inspire the people of Surabaya to fight the British troops during the Battle of Surabaya in November 1945, died of illness and aging-related factors, he remarked.
Her coffin was transported from Jakarta to the East Java city of Surabaya to be buried beside the grave of her husband at the Ngagel public cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, Tony remarked.
Meanwhile, East Java Deputy Governor Saifullah Yusuf delivered his condolences to the families of the national hero Bung Tomo, saying that Sulistina was an inspirational figure.
"Representing the people of East Java, I convey their deepest condolences. Indonesia has again lost a respected and inspirational figure. May Allah the Almighty and the Merciful accept all her good deeds," he stated.
