Jombang, E Java,  (Antara) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla, Saturday made a working visit to East Java Province, among other things to commemorate the demise of former president Abdurahman Wahid (Gus Dur) in Jombang.

Kalla left Jakarta for Surabaya, at around 9 a.m. local time, the vice presidential secretariat said in a statement.

From Surabaya, Kalla took a chopper to Tuban, to visit the PT Trans Pacific Petrochemical Indotama factory.

He later proceeded to the oil and gas well of Banyu Urip Block Cepu in Bojonegoro.

At 5 p.m. local time, he is expected to arrive in Tebu Ireng Islamic Boarding School in Jombang.

Flanked by East Java Governor Soekarwo, the vice president is slated to attend the commemoration of Gus Dur's death.

Gus Dur, the country's fourth president, died on December 30, 2009, at the age of 69.

Hasyim Asyari, Gus Dur's grandfather, was the founder of the Nahdlatul Ulama, the nation's largest Muslim organization.(*)
