Nunukan, N Kalimantan (Antara) - An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale shook Nunukan district, North Kalimantan, early Tuesday, according to the local office of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). "It is true there has been earthquake early this morning which caused fear among local residents but the earthquake did not cause a tsunami," head of the BMKG office in Nunukan district Taruna Mona said. The epicenter of the earthquake which lasted for around eight seconds was located 4.57 degrees northern latitude and 119.87 degrees eastern longitude or 289 km from Tarakan city or 200 km from Nunukan district at a depth of 10 km, he said. There was not immediate report of material damage or fatalities. (*) Reported by M Rusman
