Jakarta (Antara) - Ex-Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad attended the gala premier of "Soekarno" movie on Monday (Sept. 29), at TGV Cinemas, Kuala Lumpur (KL), noted a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in KL here on Tuesday. Apart from the presence of the former Malaysian prime minister, the premier was also attended by Malaysia's Minister for Communication and Multimedia Dato Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, 20 ambassadors from foreign countries residing in KL, director of Soekarno movie Hanung Bramantyo, and the cast of the movie: Ario Bayu, Maudy Koesnaedy, and Tika Bravani. Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Herman Prayitno, during his speech prior to the screening of Soekarno movie, expressed gratitude to the former Malaysian prime minister Mohamad and other respected figures who were present at the venue. The ambassador emphasized that the Soekarno movie was an inspiring story for the younger generation. He hoped that the Malaysian viewers could look up to Soekarno not only as the founding father of Indonesia but also as a father, lover, and friend to his colleagues. The Soekarno movie, directed by Hanung Bramantyo, portrays the life of first President Soekarno during the country's struggle for independence in 1945. The movie also reveals another side of Soekarno's life, which is his family, love life, and his relations with other colleagues during and after the struggle for Indonesia's independence. In the meantime, producer of Soekarno Raam Punjabi expressed pride on the movie being screened in a Malaysian theater. Raam gave assurance that he would hold screenings of his movie in other countries such as Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Timor Leste. The Soekarno movie will be available for public screening in Malaysia, starting from October 2. (*)
