Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - The East Java provincial government will put up for exhibition a variety of key export commodities when it observes the province's anniversary next month.
East Java Governor Soekarwo said here on Monday he wanted the province's key export commodities to be displayed at the exhibition.
"It is important to let the public see the province's preparations for the AEC (Asean Economic Community)," he said.
The provincial government, through the industry and trade office, will invite 24 trade representatives including those from ASEAN member states, he said.
"Trade, Tourism and Investment are at the heart of free trade. The public must be informed how to deal with the implementation of AEC in 2015," he said.
The event will be a strategic activity and must be used as a foundation to face the AEC. Only 266 thousand of 6.8 million micro small and medium businesses in East Java export their products, he said.
The local government will bring together representatives of the 266 thousand small and medium businesses to see the quality of their products, he said.
"We want to show the public that East Java products are in great demand in ASEAN member states. If the public prefers foreign embroidery, East Java will display embroidery which is not inferior to that done abroad in terms of quality and quantity," he said. (*) Reporting by Indra Setiawan
