Jakarta (Antara Jatim) - The Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor) Tulungagung, East Java, rejected the radical Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) movement and cautioned supporters of its spread, stating that it opposes the Indonesian Unitary State's ideology. "We call on all the supporters and officials in our region to oversee mosques or places of worship. If there is anything suspicious, report it immediately," Sahrul Munir, the leader of the Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor), Tulungagung, stated here on Thursday. The ISIS movement has not yet spread to Tulungagung areas. However, as Islam is the dominant religion in the region, the Ansor declared that Tulungagung and its surrounding areas should stay alert regarding the ISIS movement. Moreover, networks of the ISIS, which called on the establishment of the Islamic State in Indonesia, have emerged in some areas in East Java, such as Malang and Jombang. "The results of our study reveal that the ISIS targets Nadhliyin or Nahdlatul Ulama followers. The ISIS objective is to establish an Islamic State in Indonesia by adopting any means including war in the name of Jihad," he affirmed. In a seven-point statement issued, GP Ansor Tulungagung branch has committed to support pluralism and Pancasila as the ideology of the Unitary State of Indonesia. In contrast, GP Ansor has rejected the presence of ISIS that spreads hatred and violence. "We also urge the military and police to improve the monitoring system to spot the emergence of separatist movements that can undermine the authority and integrity of Indonesia," he stated.(*)
