Rembang, C Java (Antara) - State-owned PT Semen Indonesia has started the construction of a cement plant, with a production capacity of three million tons a year in Rembang, Central Java.
"The construction of the new plant in Rembang is our step to strengthen our expansion, so that Indonesia will remain the master in its own country by making the state-owned company the national market leader in the cement industry," the company's president director Dwi Soetjipto said when starting the construction project marked by a prayer rite led by five local leaders: Mbah (grandpa) Achmad Akhid from Timbrangan village, Mbah Sarki from Pasucen, Mbah Syamsudin from Kajar, Mbah Purwoto from Kadiwono and Cleric Nasikun from Tegaldowo.
Dwi Soetjipto said the plant will be constructed based on a green industry concept.
The green concept is realized by increasing the consumption of alternative energy generated from agricultural waste, lowering water and electricity consumption, controlling gas emission and preserving biodiversity, he added.
"We wish to realize environmental excellence in the management of the plant," he said in a press release. (*)
