Batam, Riau Islands (Antara) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to open the 25th National Quran Reading Contest (MTQ) in Batam on June 6, Riau Islands Governor Muhammad Sani said on Wednesday. "I am delighted to hear the President's confirmation to attend it. We, the organizing committee, will make the best possible preparations for MTQ," Sani added. While in Batam, the President will also inaugurate a number of state and private projects, including house rehabilitation projects and bridges, he said. "He will inaugurate not only projects in Batam, but also in other areas, including Natuna and Anambas," he noted. Meanwhile, chief of the event's organizing committee Soerya Respationo said he and his staff will try to make MTQ a portrait of harmony among human beings. "At MTQ this time, we will try to highlight harmony in diversity. Through this MTQ, we want to demonstrate harmony among adherents of different faiths as a portrait of national harmony," Soerya, who is also deputy governor of Riau Islands province, remarked. He said the organizing committee had prepared everything to serve participants of MTQ from the country's 33 provinces. (*) Reporting by Jannatun Naim
