Kuala Lumpur (Antara) - Indonesia's 'halal' (allowed by Islamic law) products won contracts worth millions of dollars in the 11th Malaysian International Halal Showcase (MIHAS-2014), an Indonesian diplomat said. "Demand for Indonesia's halal products from both Muslim and non-Muslim countries was promising," Indonesia's Trade Attache at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur Fajarini Puntodewi said here on Monday. He said the value of the transactions and potential transactions during the four-day business expo, which lasted from April 9 to April 12, rose to US$2 million, a significant increase from US$5000 thousand in the previous year's exhibition. Besides Malaysia, demand for Indonesian halal products also came from Palestine, Singapore, Turkey, South Korea, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Belgium. They needed Indonesian products, such as cosmetics, coffee, chocolate, chips and instant seasonings. Indonesia's cosmetics and Muslim clothes businesses also have the potential to cooperate with Parkson, one of the biggest shopping centers in Malaysia. It plans to develop the Muslim consumer market segment. (*)
