Tulungagung, E Java, March 18 (Antara) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono talked about the successes achieved during his 10 years in the government in a campaign rally here on Tuesday.
SBY as he is popularly called spoke at the rally alongside his wife, Mrs. Kristiani Yudhoyono, in his capacity of the general chairman of the ruling Democrat Party.
In his speech, he asked thousands of people who attended the rally why the Democrat Party members and sympathizers had gathered there that day.
He smiled when he heard various answers from party cadres and sympathizers attending the event.
He then answered the question himself by saying "we wish to make our country more advanced and better in the next five years. Tulungagung is better, Blitar is better, Kediri is better, Nganjuk is better, Pacitan is better and Magetang is also better."
As he forgot to mention Ponorogo, which is also the constituency of his son, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono alias Ibas, Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono approached him and whispered the name of the district to him.
In response, Yudhoyono then added Ponorogo to the group of districts he had mentioned before.
"The Democrat Party believes if we are given the duty of forming the government, Indonesia would be more advanced, more secure and bring more goodness to the people. We have proven it in the past ten years. God willing and through hard work the Democrat Party along with the people could make this country even better in the next five years," he said, drawing an applause from the audience.
SBY noted that among the successes that he had achieved was the country's economy, which he said was ranked 16th in the world; health and welfare programs; modernization of police/military equipment; and corruption eradication efforts.
"The Democrat Party will continue supporting corruption eradication efforts because we all want our country to be more advanced and corruption free," he said.
The event also featured music performances by national artists. (*)
