Surabaya, East Java province (Antara) - Two more animals at the Surabaya Zoo were found dead here on Saturday, a spokesman for the zoo's management, Agus Supangkat, said. "The two animals found dead were a deer and a komodo. They were discovered by our officer at around nine in the morning," he added. According to an autopsy carried out by the doctors at the animal husbandry faculty of Airlangga University and a team from the Surabaya Zoo, the komodo died due to a digestive system problem, while the deer died because of a broken leg. "The deer broke its leg earlier and we had to perform an amputation. After the surgery, we put the deer in a separate cage. The next morning, the deer was found dead," Agus added. Agus said the deaths of the two animals had been reported to the Surabaya police. The Surabaya Zoo in the East Java province has attracted global attention over the past two months due to allegations that the poor conditions in which the animals are being kept is leading to the deaths of the animals in the zoo.
