Jakarta (Antara) - Marzuki Alie in his capacity as the House Speaker has the obligation to maintain the good image of the House of Representatives (DPR), a legislator said. "He has the obligation to maintain the good image of the House. After all, the public perception of the DPR is not so good now," Syarifuddin Sudding, the chairman of the People's Conscience (Hanura) Party Faction in the House, said here on Thursday. Syarifuddin made the remarks in response to a statement on Monday by Marzuki Alie who said he had suspicion that a House member had taken a bribe with regard to the construction of a new DPR building. He said that the people's now had bad perception about the House, particularly on corruption. "Amid such a perception, Mr Marzuki raises an issue. It is not elegant for the House Speaker to make such a statement at will," he said. Therefore, he suggested that Marzuki Alie disclose the identity of the House member he alleged to have taken a bribe. Syarifuddin also asked the House Speaker to mention the name and his or her faction in the House. When asked on the alleged bribe and lobbying rumors in the construction of the new DPR building, Syarifuddin said he did not have knowledge about it. "At that time, I had not yet become the chairman of the Hanura Faction. But Hanura and I have expressed rejection of the plan," he said.(*)
